Abstract

1. Roentgenographic changes of the hip joint following extra-articular operations for degenerative arthritis have been described.

2. Improvement was noted in the roentgenograms in three fourths of the hips treated by osteotomy or the hanging-hip operation.

3. The mechanism by which beneficial changes are brought about may be common to both types of extra-articular operations.
