Abstract

Subgluteal and retropsoal infections following pudendal or paracervical block anesthesia are a devastating complication of the postpartum period. This case report illustrates the confusing clinical picture and the problems in management of this severe infection. A review of the morbidity and mortality in six previously reported cases demonstrates the necessity of early surgical intervention. Unaware of this obstetrical complication. the orthopaedic consultant may delay diagnosis and treatment.
