President Morrey, Dr. Hanley, distinguished international visitors, and members and guests of the American Orthopaedic Association:I am honored to address you as your president-elect. It will come as no surprise that, to prepare for this presentation, I sought out the collective wisdom of my predecessors. In reading their speeches, I sensed the insight and vision that these former presidents exhibited. It was a most inspiring and humbling experience. Although I accept this honor with humility, I am eager to serve the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA) and to do my best to continue the commitment to excellence that this organization and its leaders have symbolized for the past 116 years.
