For the last quarter century, I have coached soccer at some level. Like
many parents, I started coaching when my kids developed an interest in soccer,
and coaches were needed if the kids were to play. I knew little about soccer
and had to learn both about soccer and about coaching. Now that I have retired
from such endeavors, I would like to share some observations about coaching,
orthopaedic training programs, and leadership. Leadership has become a hot
topic for our national orthopaedic organizations, and several programs have
been developed to train leaders.
