To The Editor:The article "The Effect of Humeral Component Anteversion on Shoulder
Stability with Glenoid Component Retroversion" (2005;87:808-14), by
Spencer et al., is a "redundant publication."1 A recent
publication by Iannotti et al.2, in a peer-reviewed orthopaedic
journal, contained data, discussion, and conclusions that were similar to
those in the present article. The principal author of each of these two
articles coauthored the other article. The Materials and Methods, Results, and
Discussion sections of the present article are merely elaborated versions of
the section titled "Glenoid Malpositioning: Humeral Stability in a
Cadaveric Model" in the article by Iannotti et al.2. Figures
4 and 5 in the JBJS paper are two-dimensional charts of the same data
presented as three-dimensional charts in Figures 5 and 6 in the other
article2. Neither article has provided a cross reference
identifying the other.
