This edition has eight new contributors. The section on congenital anomalies has been expanded, with the extremities discussed according to anatomy. The text is much more readable, visually attractive, and comprehensible than that of the first edition. Issues such as the need to remove plates or screws and the need to protect the extremity for six weeks to two years are addressed. Better graphics and printing capabilities have made it possible to include a listing on the special considerations for each procedure in each chapter.
Each section provides a brief synopsis of the pertinent information on the disease entity. It is assumed that the reader will use this textbook to obtain details about operative methods rather than all of the information about a particular disease. However, there is sufficient information on the basic principles of treatment of most of these conditions.
I enjoyed reading and browsing through this book. It will be a valuable addition to orthopaedic departments, particularly pediatric orthopaedic departments. It will also be useful to community practitioners who occasionally perform some of these procedures.
