When the first edition of this work was published in 1980, it became an immediate classic. It took another eighteen years and the addition of another editor before this long-overdue second edition was produced. The book is surprisingly massive considering that its subject is not one that would be expected to generate this much detail. With seventy-three chapters and more than 100 authors, it seems implausible that any topic has been missed. The contributors represent a "Who's Who" of peripheral nerve surgeons and specialists; this large collection of superb talent includes orthopaedists, neurosurgeons, plastic surgeons, radiologists, and basic scientists. The inclusion of a photograph of each author was a nice touch.
