As Delta flight 5872 glided into a Canadian sunset on October 14, the royal palaces along the sparkling St. Lawrence seemed to nest in a still brilliant autumn collage. For a few minutes my mind drifted from unprepared lectures to the Montreal skyline emerging on a crystal horizon. As the plane's wings soared over the maple canopy, I observed an arctic wind ripping through the trees, releasing their leaves into the winter dusk. My mind raced back to September 11. I swallowed hard and wondered how the victims must have felt as they descended over New York. This Boeing pounced on the runway and the skids yielded with a howl of deceleration-the AOA 2001 John J. Fahey, MD, Memorial North American Traveling Fellowship was underway!
