Extract

For at least the last fifteen years, Green's Operative Hand Surgery has been the source to which hand surgeons turn for definitive information. It has attracted outstanding contributors whose efforts have resulted in well-written sections that together summarize our current knowledge of the hand. In my opinion, three forces have contributed to the changes that are encompassed in the fifth edition: the growth and wide-spread acceptance of the Internet, the demand for up-to-date information, and the marked increase in the number of hand-surgery textbooks that are currently available. The editors have responded to these forces with a fifth edition that will serve to maintain Green's Operative Hand Surgery as the definitive textbook in its field.
