Over the past decade, there has been increased interest in the development and utilization of validated functional outcomes instruments. Several of these instruments have been published in the pages of The Journal. Because of the increasing interest in multicenter/multinational studies, many of these instruments are being appropriately translated and validated in other languages. The focus of The Journal continues to be on issues related to diseases and injuries involving the musculoskeletal system. We do not consider ourselves to be a health services research journal. To this end, our policy will be to consider for publication in The Journal translations of other validated instruments from their primary languages into English, but we will not consider translation of validated functional outcomes instruments originally developed in English into other languages. These publications are best directed to clinical research journals or orthopaedic journals in the language of interest.
