the degree of osteoporosis in this patient population is extremely important.
In our practice, we measure bone mineral density in the contralateral hip
prior to surgery in all patients more than sixty-five years old who present
with a hip fracture. Knowing the bone density is important for the surgeon in
order to select the most appropriate surgical intervention.
