This supplement to The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery presents
the best of the scientific exhibits displayed at the seventy-fourth Annual
Meeting of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, held in San Diego,
California, in February 2007.
The Committee on Exhibits graded the scientific exhibits on the basis of
their content, presentation, and overall value to our specialty. This year,
the Committee reviewed 149 abstracts, of which sixty-eight were selected to be
presented at the Annual Meeting. Publication of the following sixteen selected
exhibits highlights these outstanding projects and gives the reader of The
Journal an opportunity to review the innovative surgical techniques,
basic-science research, and outstanding long-term clinical studies presented
in this format at the meeting. The Committee on Exhibits also believes that
publication of these exhibits will encourage the submission of additional
exhibits at future meetings and will continue to provide the orthopaedic
surgeon with information about the latest important advances.
On behalf of the Committee on Exhibits, I would like to once again thank
the Council on Education and James D. Heckman, MD, Editor-in-Chief of The
Journal, for their continued support and encouragement of this project.
Personally, I would like to thank the members of the Committee on Exhibits for
the time and energy that they spent on grading abstracts as well as judging
the scientific exhibits that were presented at this year's meeting. None of
this would have been possible without the tremendous assistance of our Academy
staff members, Pat Whitaker and Kathy Fornelli.
