In 2007, the founders of the International Congress for Joint Reconstruction (ICJR) joined together to build a community of educational programs for physicians and surgeons involved with joint reconstruction. The ICJR was established as an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to reinventing the methods for gaining knowledge and, ultimately, to improving patient outcomes.
The inaugural meeting of the ICJR in December 2008 was designed to provide in-depth state-of-the-art continuing medical education in both hip and knee reconstruction. Internationally renowned faculty presented the latest findings and newest technological advances for nonarthroplasty and arthroplasty approaches to treating problems of the hip and knee. The innovative program formats offered rapid-fire point-counterpoint panel discussions and debate, video vignettes, case-based solutions, "hands-on" workshops, keynote addresses, and opportunities for the attendees to engage and interact with faculty.
This supplement represents a portion of the extensive course curriculum that focused on current issues in hip and knee arthroplasty, including techniques in primary and revision surgery, prevention and management of complications, bearing-surface science, application of minimally invasive techniques, surgical navigation, and contemporary challenges in joint reconstruction with regard to economics and efficiency.
The ICJR remains a group of world-class educators who are committed to improving knowledge and competence through the exchange of scientific thought through which improvement in patient care is fostered.
Along with its mission of high-quality education, the ICJR is a philanthropic organization whose profits will be reinvested in the professional societies, charities, and organizations relevant to the critical issues in orthopaedics today.
