There has been continued innovation in orthopaedic basic science research over the past year. In this review, we highlight notable studies published in the last twelve months. We have reviewed papers from the annual meeting of the Orthopaedic Research Society as well as major orthopaedic journals. These studies demonstrate an exciting multidisciplinary approach to understanding the mechanisms underlying tissue degeneration, injury, repair, and replacement.
