The reconstruction that they described does not reconstruct the popliteofibular ligament. It reconstructs the tibiofibular ligament, which has no role in controlling external rotation. An anatomical study of the posterolateral corner of the knee that was performed by LaPrade and a colleague1 clearly demonstrates that the popliteofibular ligament arises from the tendon of the popliteus and insets onto the fibula (as shown in Fig. 7-D in that article1). Hence, the authors are contradicting their anatomical findings and have misleadingly named their reconstruction as anatomical.
