TY - JOUR T1 - Two Clear Identities for Two Strong Journals AU - Tolo, Vernon T. Y1 - 2010/09/01 N1 - 10.2106/JBJS.9211edit JO - The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery SP - 2031 EP - 2031 VL - 92 IS - 11 N2 - The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery began as the Transactions of the American Orthopedic Association, the first volume of which contained the proceedings of the AOA meetings of 1887 and 1888. The journal name was later changed to the American Journal of Orthopedic Surgery. In 1919, this journal became the official publication of the British Orthopaedic Association and the word American was dropped from the title. At the same time, the spelling of Orthopedic was changed to Orthopaedic. Shortly thereafter, in 1922, the name The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery was adopted. In 1948, the establishment of an A (American) and a B (British) volume took place, as the American volume, which owns the JBJS name, agreed to share this journal title with The British Editorial Society of Bone and Joint Surgery. However, as this history reveals, names often change with changing times. SN - 0021-9355 M3 - doi: 10.2106/JBJS.9211edit UR - http://dx.doi.org/10.2106/JBJS.9211edit ER -
