As we noted in our response to Dr. Noyes, we have been questioned several times over the past decade about the necessity of reconstructing the popliteofibular ligament through a tibial tunnel during our anatomic reconstruction. As we reported in this study1 and in our 2004 biomechanical study2, which validated this reconstruction technique, it is important to recognize that the popliteofibular ligament forms a 38° proximomedial angle as it courses off the fibula3 to its attachment at the popliteus musculotendinous junction, and this is the angle that our popliteofibular ligament reconstruction graft makes when it enters the tibia1,2.
